Working For Your
School
One of the most overlooked ways to get a college job is to work
for your school. Colleges often offer their students the
opportunity to secure employment with them, on a limited basis.
There are many reasons that schools do this including the fact
that it is often less expensive to hire students instead of
other employees. Nevertheless, many students don’t realize that
these opportunities exist. Or, they may not realize that they
can obtain these positions. Take a few minutes to explore one
of the best college jobs out there: the one campus job!
Decisions, Decisions…
Here are a few tips to help you to find college jobs that
are available right on the campus.
• Start with your counselor. Since every student has a
counselor in college, he or she should talk to them about their
needs. Some counselors are more proactive than others. If you
communicate your need to find employment to your counselor, he
or she can help you to secure it even. They may have something
that you can do for them, too.
• Talk to teachers. Many teachers need aids and outside
help to allow them to do their job accurately. This may mean a
paying job in the field that you already enjoy. Many teachers
don’t advertise these jobs in any way, because they provide
them to students. Find out if these opportunities are available
to you. You may be able to get a position with a teacher
recommendation as well. Talk to your teachers about school
options they can point you in the right direction
for.
• College offices. You’ll also find that many colleges
have specific offices that have the goal of helping students to
get their needs met including finding work. Many colleges would
like their students to stay on campus as much as possible and
therefore offer many types of jobs to make this happen for
them. Visit your schools main office for more information or
the special offices they may have for student employment.
Finding college jobs on campus can help you to get ahead in the
school work you need to do. It helps you to stay in one place
and avoid costs of traveling and eating out. IN many cases,
these college jobs will help you to prepare for the career that
you’ll get into later, too.
