How Do Celebrities Really Feel About The Use Of Bodyguards?

Some element of security is necessary when you live your life in the public eye as many celebrities do. However, some are so surrounded by their barrage of bodyguards that it is difficult to get a look at them at all. So what do celebrities think about bodyguards? The opinions are as varied as the celebs themselves. As with just about any topic, most will follow the beat of the popular drummer, while there are some that choose to stray from the beaten path.

Alecia Moore, or Pink as she is called by her fans, doesn't see what all the hype is about being constantly surrounded by bodyguards. Pink is a singer and self-proclaimed bad girl that bypasses bodyguards in favor of self-defense. Pink has been noted saying that her image is scary enough, and that she can take care of herself is a situation comes up. She hates the idea of having a wall of bodyguards separate her from her fans, and prefers to keep herself closer to the ones that made her who she is today.

It's no secret how celebrity parents Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie feel about the use of bodyguard security for their family. Arguably the most famous couple in Hollywood, they are responsible for the livelihood of their incredibly famous children. Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, and one more adopted addition soon to come are constantly in the public eye, regardless of the measures their parents take to shield them. When Shiloh was born in Namibia in 2006, bodyguards were just one of the measures taken to ensure their privacy. The couple had arrangements with the local law enforcement there to help keep paparazzi out of the clinic, away from the streets and even from the sky above.

Somehow, even the best bodyguards cannot shield the Jolie-Pitt clan from everything, no matter how they try. One particular news story highlighted a paparazzo that jumped the wall into Maddox's daycare when he was four years old to catch a few shots of the child. Now seven, Maddox and his sisters have grown accustomed to the media circus. That doesn't mean that Brad and Angelina have let down their guard, or their bodyguards. Life lived in the spotlight can be easily threatened, and the couple has a lot to protect.

For the most part, Pink and the Jolie-Pitt family represent opposite ends of the spectrum. Most stars are somewhere in the middle when it comes to personal protection through the use of bodyguards and other means. The home tends to be sacred ground for most, and unless a photographer or reporter is invited, they can be presumed Persona Non Grata. For this reason, many celebs employ full-time bodyguards and security teams to protect their sacred territory. With so much of their lives lived in public, it is crucial that they have a carefully guarded place in which they can sequester for a while.

Privacy isn't the only reason that celebrities feel so strongly about the use of bodyguards. There are a lot of strange people in the world that are capable of horrendous things. Catherine-Zeta Jones received death threats from a stalker who was later convicted and sentenced. The gravest example of a fan gone bad is the attempt on Ronald Reagan's life in 1981. Many are not aware that it was an attempt to impress movie star Jodie Foster that fueled the attempted assassination. The President's own bodyguard received a near fatal gunshot wound, as did Reagan. Both made a full recovery. Stories like these and others make it easy to see why so many celebrities feel they must be surrounded by constant bodyguards.
