Architecture Groups And Associations

There are various architecture schools available to the general public. The trouble is finding a place that is accredited and known for their good work ethic and classes that are taught. After graduation, it is good to try and get involved with architect groups and become a productive member of your field. Being up to date is easier once your within a firm and associated with other professionals. There are many groups out there that support architecture, but one of the best is possible the AIA, or American Institute of Architects. This group was founded in 1857 and is comprised of more then 77,000 licensed architects.

If any information is needed, it is easily obtained through different group members. This can make projects go a lot smoother and increase the overall business that an architect may receive. The AIA support a list of 10 principles that enable their architects to lead more enriched careers. The first of these is to design on a human scale. The more compact the community is the more people can walk from place to place. Instead of driving they can simply walk from shops while out in town. This reduces traffic and is beneficial to everyone’s health.

The next point is to provide your customer with choices. People don’t want to live in the same house as everyone else. They want variety and to stand out from the rest. Everyone wants to be their own person and have their home reflect that about them. Point 3 is to encourage mixed-use development. It is always a good idea to utilize different plants and building types to give your community diversity from the rest. Point 4 is to preserve urban centers. Restoring condemned buildings and roads help the community. Also take advantage of everything that is already there.

It is always a good idea to make something useful out of a ruined building, then to simply tear it down and have to build an entire new structure. Point 6 is to build vibrant public spaces. People often need a welcoming place in order to feel comfortable. If your setting is vibrant and friendly to the overall populace, then people will have face-to-face interaction within the confines of the setting you have created. Point 7 is the create a neighborhood identity. You want everyone within your setting to feel that they are a part of something unique.

A “sense of place” gives neighborhoods a unique character, enhances walking environment, and creates pride n the community. Number 8 is to protect environmental resources. Try and always to protect your setting from pollution in all forms. Also try and preserve the natural systems. Step 9 is to conserve the landscapes. Open spaces, farms, and wildlife habitat are essential for your setting. Do not foolishly waste these away with pollution or simply tear too much of it down. The last point is design matters. Remember all these points when working on structures around your community. A good architect can use all of these and still make his own principles to rely on.
